MUSIC
The curriculum in years 7 – 9 is based on the National Criteria for music. It is taught in half-termly projects that combine composing, performing, listening and appraising. Throughout the key stage, pupils will experience a wide range of music from different styles and cultures.
Instrumental lessons are available on strings, woodwind, brass, keyboard, guitar, percussion and voice. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities available including, orchestra, steel band, guitar club, lower and upper school choirs, a capello group and theory club. These clubs perform regularly in concerts and shows.

ART AND DESIGN
Pupils in years 7-9 develop their imaginative skills in two and three-dimensional work. Key Stage 3 developed in time with National Curriculum for Art and Design and we aim that pupils develop the following skills. They are offered a broad curriculum that includes historical and critical studies and have the opportunity to develop the following skills:

The department offers many after school enrichments and is involved in costume making, prop and set design for the school concerts and shows. We exhibit students work in an Annual Exhibition, regularly enter National Competitions and are involved in Community projects.

KEY STAGE 3
Drama in KS3 aims to give students’ personal, social, moral and spiritual development and creates the opportunity for practical experiences through improvisation, script, media and the experience of technical skills such as lighting and sound. The emphasis lies in the process of developing ideas to a range of stimuli, performing and evaluating. Stimuli can range from a photograph, poem or newspaper article to script extracts from different genres.
GCSE
In GCSE Drama students learn the techniques and styles appropriate to their performances. They can learn technical skills such as lighting, sound, make-up. masks, properties, stage management and set design.
Enrichment opportunities include school plays, Arts Showcases, working with professionals, performing in the Schools Shakespeare Festival.
DANCE
The pupils are assessed on the following areas.
Choreography of a dance – 30%

Dance is taught in modular form in Years 7-9 and as part of Year 10 and 11 Options through PE. The basis for each module is to use and expand on the everyday experiences that pupils can normally relate to and are enthusiastic about. Pupils work on choreographic, performance and evaluative skills.
Extra – curricular dance activities are available for all year groups and links between upper and lower school pupils are now established. The students from these clubs perform in school shows. The school works closely with ‘Swindon Dance’ who provide classes for all years. This link also offers opportunities for students to work with professional dance companies.
