Welcome to the Technologies and Vocational Department at Nova Hreod.

 

Technology

The technology rooms are equipped to allow pupils to work with electronic products, food technology, graphics resistant materials and textile technology. At Key Stage 3 pupils are given the opportunity to try all of the technology subjects and develop their skills before having the choice of Product Design, Engineering, Food Technology and Textiles.

 

Key Stage 3

 

Food Technology

This area is where it is possible to learn about nutrition and healthy eating and the skills of cooking.Exotic Fruit Basket

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Graphics

This area allows pupils to develop their technical drawing skills as well as creative design skills. Possible projects include Pizza Company Corporate Identity (Pizza Box and menu design), CD Packaging and Shop Front Designs

Electronic Products

Pupils have the opportunity to learn how to make electronic circuits and use them in the making of a range of products.

 

Resistant Materials

Textiles

Key Stage 4

 

Product Design

Product Design is where you take all the experience gained at Key Stage 3 as well as new skills to solve design problems. Students look at designing and making brand new products from analysing a problem to finding a solution that could be marketed as a real product.

Engineering

This is a double GCSE that looks being able to draw and read engineering drawings, follow them and interpret them to be able to make the design. Students get to understand a range of engineering subjects including electronics and mechanical engineering. Students will also be able to using Computer Aided Design as part of their work.

Food Technology

Students are able to extend on their food skills from Key Stage 3 and be able to experiment with different ingredients to develop existing dishes and create new ones.

Textiles

Students learn a range of new skills that can be used with different materials. Students can then create their own fashion designs and create new and exciting ideas.

 

Vocational Education

In this area the focus is preparing students for the world of work once they leave school. All of the options here are aimed at giving skills to students that will help them secure employment after leaving school. Students can choose from vocational GCSE’s, ASDAN/ COPE awards and the Prince’s Trust Award

 

Vocational GCSE’s

 

Child Development

Students learn about the early years of a child’s life from looking after the pregnancy to helping the child develop during the first five years of their life.

 

Health and Social Care

Students learn about Health and Wellbeing and Health Service Providers. The Students complete two pieces of course work and sit an exam at the end of year 11.

 

Applied Curriculum

The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness is a GCSE based award programme. Students cover 12 areas of study and complete challenges to gain credits. The portfolios are externally moderated and a certificate awarded.

 

Princes Trust XC Club

This is an award programme run by the Princes Trust and ASDAN in partnership with Swindon Youth Service. It helps young people gain confidence by completing projects on Citizenship, team building and Work and Life Skills. A Bronze, Silver or Gold Certificate is awarded at the end of year11.
