Welcome to the Computing department at Nova Hreod
ICT Rooms
The Computing department at Nova Hreod aims to motivate and excite students about the possibilities that ICT has to offer and to produce individuals who are able to apply their understanding and knowledge of ICT successfully to novel and realistic situations, both within, and external to, the curriculum.
All ICT rooms are all equipped with PCs, Projectors, Printers and network facilities to allow students access to appropriate ICT resources and develop their computing skills. At Key Stage 3 all pupils have one discrete lesson a week in which they will follow the national strategy for ICT. In Key Stage 4 pupils can choose from a range of computing courses.
Key Stage 3
Year 7
In Year 7 pupils will look at the following units of study:

Processing Text and Images
Pupils look at creating a magazine front cover.

Modelling
Pupils look at spreadsheet models.

Data Handling
Pupils look at handling large amounts of data in spreadsheets.

Control and Monitoring
Pupils look at the way in which computers are used to control events.
Year 8
In Year 8 pupils will look at the following units of study:

Information, Reliability and Bias
Pupils look at using data and information sources and searching and selecting information from the Internet.

Models and Presenting Numerical Data
This unit build on 7.4 where pupils look at spreadsheets for modelling and presenting numerical data.

An ICT System: Integrating Applications to Find Solutions
Pupils look at using all of the skills they have learnt in previous unit to take a systems approach to a project.
Year 9
In Year 9 Pupils will look at the following units of study:

Designing a water ride in a theme park
Pupils look at developing a theme park ride using control and monitoring techniques.

Data Handling
Pupils look at data collection and data handling on a large scale.

Front-of-house theatre booking system
Pupils design and implement a booking system and consider project planning.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 pupils follow the DIDA (Diploma in Digital Applications) qualification. This can be completed at three levels:
AIDA Award in Digital Applications
All pupils are expected to take this qualification and will receive two discrete lessons a week. The award is made up of one unit which is equivalent to a single GCSE.
Pupils will use a range of software to look at:

Prototyping and Testing

Creating an e-portfolio to present work

Project planning and management
CIDA Certificate in Digital Applications
Pupils can choose to take this alongside the AIDA qualification to achieve a certificate which is equivalent to two GCSEs. As well as the unit from the AIDA qualification, pupils will be expected to complete one of the following units:

Graphics

ICT in Enterprise
DIDA Diploma in Digital Applications
Pupils can choose to take this alongside the AIDA qualification to achieve a diploma which is equivalent to four GCSEs. As well as the unit from the AIDA qualification, pupils will be expected to complete all of the following units:

ICT in Enterprise
IPRO As well as the DIDA qualification framework pupils are also offered the IPRO course at Key Stage 4. Pupils will achieve a Certificate for IT Practitioners which is equivalent to two GCSEs. Pupils will be expected to:

Develop knowledge, skills and understanding in a full range of functions involved with systems support.

This will include; Maintaining computer systems, installation of hardware and software, testing systems and producing customer support material.
