Science @Nova Hreod

The Sciences Department

Welcome to the Sciences department at Nova Hreod

In this School of Learning we aim to give students a real scientific learning experience. We achieve this by giving them a variety of learning opportunities. Much of the science is taught through practical experience. We strive to make science relevant to the 21 st century student by asking the questions” what is it?”, “how does it work?” and “why is it useful?” We encourage the use of full sentences in Standard English to answer each of these questions; to be concise yet precise, engaged and accurate in their application of Science to the real world.

At key stage 3 all students study a number of modules, some follow an accelerated programme of study and some take a traditional route.

At key stage 4 all students will study science with the emphasis being on “how science works.” Students complete a core GCSE in year 10 and have to complete one science in the news report. In year 11 students complete a further GCSE and have to complete a research study and a data analysis task.
