PSYCHOLOGY

Psychology is the study of the human mind and of human behaviour. To study Psychology, you need to learn about other people’s theories and be able to develop your own.

All pupils follow the AQA GCSE course. The topics covered fall within the following areas of psychology – social, pro- and anti-social behaviour, cognitive and developmental.

Knowledge and understanding of all the topic areas are tested in the two hour exam. There is also a course work component (a one thousand word report) that is worth 20% of the final mark. This requires students to plan, carry out and write up the results of an experiment.

This would be a useful course for anyone interested in working with people. It would be particularly helpful for those thinking of careers in psychology, teaching, medicine, counselling, the police or social work.
